Communications

Many times, citizens' first contact with a member of the Rockwall Police Department is made when they pick up the phone and place a call to one of our Communication Specialists. They are available to answer all non-emergency and 911 calls placed to the police department.

The Communications Division is comprised of a Communications Manager, two Communication Supervisors and 11 Communication Specialists who work 10-hour shifts to provide 24-hour coverage. Communication Specialists receive extensive training to handle all types of calls; from non-emergency inquiries about police services, to dispatching fire and police services to life threatening emergencies throughout the city of Rockwall. All Communication Specialists are certified and licensed with National and Texas Crime Information Center (NCIC / TCIC) and attend yearly training.

They are responsible for answering all calls for service placed to the Rockwall Communications Center for both Police and Fire service for the City of Rockwall, the City of Heath and the City of Fate. Communications is also responsible for monitoring weather activity and activating the Outdoor Emergency Sirens in the event of severe weather in the area. If you are outdoors during a storm and hear the sirens activated, do not call 911; find shelter and tune to a news or radio station to get updated weather information.

911 Calls
The Communications Center is equipped with Phase II E911 system, which is capable of displaying both a telephone number and a general location of a wireless caller, as well as the address/phone number of a landline call to 911. Answering 911 calls is challenging due to advances in technology and the increasing amount of calls that originate from wireless callers. The Communication Center is also equipped to handle emergency and non-emergency calls from the hearing impaired.

Reminder: Please be sure you lock your cell phone to avoid false calls to 911.
